UMU vs. Musky

Alliance, OH – The Raiders dominated in every phase of the game on Saturday in their regular season home finale. Mount Union ended the weekend with a 73-7 win over the Muskies and clinched a share of their 32 Ohio Athletic Conference title in the process.

The Raiders jumped into the lead on a 10-yard touchdown run by Deandre Parker just 1:20 into the game. They then tacked on another score on a 1-yard touchdown pass to Jaden Manley from Braxton Plunk to go up 14-0. Muskingum then responded with their lone score of the day, a 2-yard touchdown run by Gannon Unger to cut the lead to 14-7. It was all Raiders for the rest of the half and Mount Union closed the half on a 49-0 run. The dominate run to close the half was highlighted by a 73-yard punt return touchdown by Ray Williams (the first by a Purple Raider since 2018) early in the second quarter. The two squads went to the locker room at halftime with Mount Union holding a 63-7 lead.

In the second half, the Mount Union defense continued to shut down the Muskingum offense. On the offensive side of the ball, Mount Union tacked on a pair of scoring plays in the final two frames: a 36-yard touchdown pass from Todd Simonds to Williams and a 27-yard field goal by Nick Deack.

Ray Williams took home Trap’s Sporting Goods player of the game honors for his performance in Mount Union’s win. Williams had a punt return touchdown and a receiving touchdown. With the loss, Muskingum fell to 4-5 (3-5 OAC) on the season and will conclude their season on Nov. 13 when they travel to take on Capital (1:30 kickoff). The Raiders improved to 9-0 (8-0 OAC) with the win and will finish their regular season schedule with a road trip to take on Marietta (1:30 kickoff) on Nov. 13.
